How to Deal with Daily Weight Loss Temptations

Losing weight can be difficult when faced with so many temptations and the simple lures of our everyday environment. Without a clear plan to deal with these temptations and lures it is no wonder it is so easy to gain weight and yet so difficult to lose it.

While day to day temptations can be challenging when losing weight or trying to keep the weight off, it is important to understand that they can be overcome by understanding how they impact us.

One of the biggest temptations we face everyday is emotional eating. This is one of the most frequent culprits to gaining weight or having difficulty in losing weight. While women seem to be most often prone to this temptation men are far from immune to it. This temptation can be successful thwarted by understanding the times in which you feel most stressed and preparing for them. For example, if you know you have a big presentation coming up at work that is likely to stress you and create a situation in which you’re more likely to binge, make sure you have plenty of healthy snack alternatives on hand such as fresh fruit, vegetable sticks, etc. Keep the unhealthy junk food out of sight and out of mind.

Avoid overeating at special occasions by planning ahead. While it may seem as though there is always a party to celebrate a party, promotion or just because it’s the end of the work week, that doesn’t mean you have to blow your diet. Eat a small meat at home ahead of time, snack on healthy foods throughout the day to curb your appetite and order something small and healthy from the menu when dining out. Just because there’s a reason to celebrate doesn’t mean there must be a reason to blow your weight loss plans.

Finally, if you do occasionally give in to temptation don’t allow it to result in complete defeat. Give yourself a pep talk and start fresh. One mistake doesn’t have to spell disaster unless you give in completely.

Avoiding daily temptations isn’t always easy but they can be overcome with sound planning and preparation.
